Located in the southwest corner of Santa Monica is the Ocean Park neighborhood. This neighborhood has a mix of older, smaller homes, apartment buildings and condos. Several housing towers are located along the beach. The area has a funky, artsy feel similar in manner to its neighbor, Venice Beach. Many Santa Monica residents come to shop and dine on Main Street, which is home to many boutiques and restaurants. Main Street also hosts a weekly farmers market on Sundays, in addition to one hosted on Wednesdays and Saturdays by the Third Street Promenade. SMASH, an alternative school, and John Muir Elementary School are in this neighborhood, as well as Olympic High, an alternative high school.

The Ocean Park area of Santa Monica has become increasingly popular amongst young professionals, especially those in the tech sector, which continues to grow in this area as well as in neighboring Venice and Playa Vista areas. Tech behemoth, SnapChat, has been influential in this increased popularity as they continue to buy commercial real estate spaces to expand their offices in these neighborhoods, which are now part of what has been named “Silicon Beach”. Real estate in this neighborhood has become more expensive over the years as the area grows in popularity due to its liveliness and proximity to the ocean and has seen several new developments.
